9:30 PM An evening with our Patriarch
Patriarch Sviatoslav Shevchuk started Thursday, 25 September at the place that justifies Canberra's existence: Parliament House. (Some more information about his meetings there can be found here.) He then travelled to St Nicholas' Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Turner to meet with Fr Michael Solomko and pay tribute to the victims of the 1932 - 1933 Forced Famine in Ukraine (the Holodomor) at the memorial there. On Thursday night, we then had the highlight of his Beatitude's all-too-brief visit here: Divine Liturgy celebrated at the memorial church of St. Volodymyr in Canberra, including installation of relics of the Blessed Volodymyr Pryjma and the Martyrs of Pratulin, declaring the Church to be a national site of pilgrimage for all Catholic people. Afterwards, he shared a meal and conversed with our parishioners at the parish hall, before leaving to prepare himself for his trip to Sydney on Friday. Fr Laurence Foote and the Parish Council of our parish would like to thank his Beatitude for his visit to our little corner of the world, as well as thanking everyone who helped make his visit here such a success.
