Every week during the Lent in our parish will be conducting Parastas for all deceased from your family (at 6.30 pm on Wednesday in Canberra and at 10 am on Friday in Queanbeyan). If you would like the priest to pray for souls of departed of your family, please take Commemoration booklets after Divine Liturgy put it in order and give it back to the priest. If you haven’t Commemoration booklet, please contact with Fr. Andriy.

Remember!

As part of our Christian obligations to show love and mercy to each other, we are also required to pray for all deceased - parents, friends, benefactors and even our 'enemies'.  St Augustine teaches that by praying for the departed, we contribute to the release of those souls who are suffering in Purgatory and help them to get to heaven where they can give thanks for their salvation.

But keep in mind that it is not enough to merely order a Liturgy or other Divine Service for departed souls. We also need to attend the service and pray together with others. In Lent, we can do this every week by attending the Sorokousty (Parastas). I urge all parishioners to bring their whole family (children and grandchildren) to these Service at least for two reasons:

1. YOU will fulfil your obligation, and will PRAY TOGETHER for the departed souls of YOUR FAMILIES.
2. YOU will give a good example for YOUR CHILDREN, so they will come to church and pray for YOUR SOUL too.
