12:38 PM Open Day | |
A successful day where Ukrainian handcrafts, embroidery, egg painting and cooking took centre stage for a short period of the day. Over 4 hours we had approximately 40-50 people who came to watch the 2 demonstrations and, in the case of the cooking one, to actually make some Varenyky but also to taste. Irena Schorsch did the egg painting demonstration and Olga Mondzheyovsky did the cooking demonstration and both were kept busy all day. Olga was able to provide tastings of Varenyky, poppy seed cake and paska. We sold all we had on hand which mainly was what Olga had made. People took recipe sheets we had and also asked about cookery classes and wanting to buy the foods we had or wanted to buy some completed painted eggs. Also everyone has opportunity to visit our church where Fr. Andriy Mykytyuk talked about its history and rite of Ukrainian Catholic Church. We will try and do the same next year ensuring we have it on the same day as the Model Train people who were next door. Cookery
classes will begin in May and we are hold cooking bees next Wednesday, 28 March
and again on Wednesday, 11 April to make Paska and Poppy seed Cake
(rolls). If people are interested please call Halina Zachara on 6251 7879
(AH) or via email on halzac@bigpond.com
or Father Andriy on 6247 2141 or st.volodymyr.parish@gmail.com.
