To come to the blessing of the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection

(Shevchuk) in his message from the Left bank of Dnipro.

The
head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC), Patriarch
Sviatoslav Shevchuk, urged believers to solemnly renew their baptismal
vows on the day of St. Volodymyr on Sunday, July 28,

"The best way in which to commemorate the millennium of Christianity in
Ukraine is to attempt in all aspects of personal, family, civil and
community life to behave according to the norms of Christ’s teachings."

History of Rus-Ukraine teaches that it is precisely the Ukrainian people
who are the new Christ’s people, who were born in the baptismal waters
of Dnipro.

Pope Francis had approved the cause for canonization of two of his
venerable and much loved predecessors Blessed John XXIII and Blessed

UGCC Head stated this during the night leading to July 11th
after thousands of faithful marched with lit candles to the monument of
the Mother of God on the place where she appeared. "Through the
assistance of faith we unite ourselves with the living and eternal God,
we become illuminated through him, we become his light, the bearers of
God’s rays.”

"Faith is the path of man, who does not yet fully see the face of God.
On the road of the believing person, in other words, the person who
seeks a fullness of understanding, knowing and experiencing God, there
will always be crisis. Therefore, one who has never experienced a
crisis of faith, is not truly a deeply-believing person, is not
searching for a full knowledge of God,” said His Beatitude Sviatoslav
(Shevchuk), UGCC Head, in an interview for the newspaper Slovo.

"Remembering that there is no
Christian life, there is no strong Christian family without prayers, I
call upon the whole Church to unite in a sincere prayer to the Almighty
for God’s blessings and care for Ukrainian families and relatives.”

"Reconciliation between our churches will help the Russian and Ukrainian
people understand one another. As often happens between neighbors, we
have many mutual historical problems, but we cannot build a future
without Christian communication. The process of reconciliation will also
help overcome Ukrainophobia in Russia and stop the Russification of
Ukraine,” Patriarch Sviatoslav Shevchuk, head of the Ukrainian Greek
Catholic Church (UGCC), said in an interview with KAI (Catholic Information Agency).

Many Catholics are unaware of the various Eastern Catholic communities within the Church. Pope Francis would not be one of them.

The number of Catholics in the world and the
number of bishops, priests, religious men and seminarians all increased
in 2011, while the number of women in religious orders continued to
decline, according to Vatican statistics, reports the Catholic News
Service.

"In his time, Prince Volodymyr, when he decided to become a Christian
and when he proposed the Christian faith to the Kyivans, he chose the
civilization on the side of Christian Europe."

Pope Francis had greetings for those Christians who, following the Julian calendar, are celebrating Easter on Sunday, May 5.

In this year’s celebration of the Lord’s Easter, we, the faithful of
the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, are called to re-discover for
ourselves again and again the resurrected Christ as the unshakeable rock
of unity of our nation.

His Beatitude Sviatoslav (Shevchuk), Head of Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church received a letter
from Holy Father Francis. The letter states: "I thank you sincerely
for the greetings which you sent me in the name of the entire Ukrainian
Greek-Catholic Church on my selection for Peter’s throne.

"In today’s world, it is difficult to be young, and it is all the more
difficult to be a young Christian. Persecutions were always intrinsic
to the life of the Church, but in today’s western world they have
changed -- they have become more refined and more hidden -- and thereby,
no less threatening and destructive. Often a young person is
embarrassed to speak about being Christian, fearing ridicule.”

Pope Francis on Wednesday called on Christians to await the coming of the Lord with trust and joy.

On April 20, 2013, as part of the pilgrimage to holy places in ancient
Constantinople, an official meeting took place between the UGCC
delegation, headed by His Beatitude Sviatoslav (Shevchuk), UGCC Head,
and the Patriarch of Constantinople, Bartholomew I in his residency in
Istanbul (Turkey).
