Let us remember that UGCC Synod of

This Papal Synod is also attended by two UGCC bishops who were selected

of Stryj Eparchy and Bishop Dionysus (Liakhovych) Apostolic Visitator
for Ukrainian Greek –Catholics in Italy and Spain. As was
communicated, Archbishop Nykola Eterovych, General Secretary Of the
Synod of Bishops, was following an earlier approval by the Holy Father,
delegated experts and observers to this Synod meeting. Among the
experts is also Sister Luiza Tsiupa SSMI, the vice-chair of the UGCC
Catechetical Commission .

In the documents the Church heads voiced their doubts about the
effectiveness of an economical policy of non-intrusive and ethical
liberalism.

In response to the initiative of Pope Benedict XVI, the Synod of Bishops
of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church held in Winnipeg proclaimed 2013
the Year of the Faith in the UGCC and set up an organizing committee to
plan spiritual events in the context of the 1025th anniversary of the
Baptism of Rus-Ukraine, the Communicate of the Synod says.

The bishops of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church proclaimed Blessed
Martyr Volodymyr Pryima patron of the laymen of UGCC and encouraged all
the faithful to venerate the holy laymen of the Ukrainian Church.

During this discussion, the bishops gratefully noted the dedication and
sacrifice of UGCC laity throughout the history of the Church, especially
its role in preserving their faith in difficult social-political
realities of the last century – four waves of emigration and the
persecution of the Church in its native land.

At the entrance to the church the Synod participants were greeted by
Rev. Bohdan Lukie CSsR, pastor of St. Joseph’s parish. He handed His
Beatitude Sviatoslav the personal cross of the Blessed Bishop and Martyr
Mykyta Budka, whose centennial of arriving in Canada is commemorated by
the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church in Canada this year.
